An interview with Matteo Rubini, a broadcast of the work and audience reactions on Radio3 Suite – Il Cartellone.
On 16 July 2026, Rai Radio 3 devoted a segment to Ad Lucem, a new composition by Matteo Rubini commissioned by the Orchestra della Toscana.
During the programme Radio3 Suite – Il Cartellone, the composer discussed the origins of the work, which grew out of a reflection on the theme of light: not merely a musical depiction of luminosity, but a journey of discovery leading from initial darkness towards a gradual opening.

On the occasion of the world premiere of The reference to the alchemical Rebis in Malta, Marialuisa Veneziano’s article devotes particular attention to Matteo Rubini’s composition, interpreting it as the threshold from which the concert’s entire musical journey unfolds. The reference to the alchemical Rebis —a symbol of the union of opposites—becomes the key to understanding music in a state of continuous transformation, in which matter and spirit, light and shadow, order and chaos seem to seek one another and come together through sound.

On the occasion of the world premiere of Ad Lucem, a new commission from the ORT Foundation, Matteo Rubini discusses the poetic and musical journey underlying the composition. Ad Lucem was conceived as the representation of a journey towards light, understood not as a sudden revelation, but as a state of stillness gradually attained:a balance achieved by passing through tension, movement and transformation, without erasing the darkness from which the journey began.

On the occasion of the premiere of Ad Lucem, a new commission from the Orchestra della Toscana, Matteo Rubini discusses his artistic journey and some of the principles that guide his compositional writing. Drawing on his training as a pianist and his studies in composition, Rubini describes an approach to music in which narrative provides the starting point: a musical narrative may emerge from a phrase,a story, a symbol or even a denser, more abstract form, before being transformed into musical material.
