Biography
Born in Parma in 1976, Matteo Rubini has developed his compositional language through the relationship between tradition and modernity. His music explores the symbolic and allegorical legacy of musical culture, reworking it through contemporary forms, harmonies and languages.

MUSICAL LANGUAGE
Matteo Rubini’s music is characterised by a modern rethinking of modality and consonance, at the heart of an exploration that interweaves musical tradition, symbolic heritage and contemporary languages.
His writing emerges from a dialogue between the ancient art of counterpoint, historical influences and the expressive possibilities of the present.

AWARDS AND RECENT WORK
- 2026 | Records the piano concerto Phoenix with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Roberto Prosseda.
- 2026 | World premiere of the symphonic work Ad Lucem con l’Orchestra regionale della Toscana.
- 2024 | Finalist in the Budapest Prize with the trio Boundless Limit.
- 2023 | Completes a song cycle for female voice and piano based on texts by David Robert Plante.
- 2022 | Receives an award from the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini for the symphonic work Sursum Corda.
- 2021 | Finalist in the Dante 700 International Competition with Dantesca, for large symphony orchestra.
EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
He trained as a pianist with Roque Zappulla and Roberto Prosseda, studied chamber music with Anna Sorrento and jazz composition with Roberto Bonati, and specialised in jazz piano with Umberto Petrin and Alberto Tacchini. He pursued advanced studies in composition with Luca Tessadrelliat the “Arrigo Boito” Conservatoire in Parma. Together, they are currently writing an essay on symbolic composition. He holds a degree in Philosophy from the University of Parma.
